Offering food and burning paper offerings and joss money for the “good brothers” (wandering spirits) is one of the traditional customs of the Chinese community.
When burning joss paper and offerings, we should also pay attention to cleanliness and environmental hygiene.
When burning paper money, it should be fully burned into ashes. Do not leave it half-burned or allow it to scatter everywhere. Not only does this create an untidy environment, it may also leave the “good brothers” sighing over incomplete offerings.
After the prayers, the food offerings should be properly cleared and disposed of in the rubbish bin, to avoid attracting birds or small animals, which may cause hygiene and pollution problems.
